Getting Started
Is there a free plan?
Yes! Start free with a powerful set of core tools — screenplay editor, voices, casting, and more. Optional paid plans unlock additional features as you grow. No credit card required to get started. See plans.
How do I create an account?
Click "Sign Up", enter your name and email, choose your @mywriters.life email address, set a password, and you're in. Takes about 30 seconds.
What's the @mywriters.life email?
Every writer gets a professional email address like yourname@mywriters.life. It comes with a full inbox, compose, folders, rules, and signatures — like Gmail but built into the platform.
Can I import my existing scripts?
Yes. Upload .fountain, .fdx (Final Draft), or .txt files. The system auto-parses characters and dialogue. You can also paste script text directly into the editor.
Writing & Scripts
What format should I use?
Use CHARACTER: Dialogue format or **CHARACTER:** Dialogue with bold. Scene headings start with INT./EXT. Stage directions go in [brackets] or (parentheses).
Does it auto-save?
Yes. The editor auto-saves every 30 seconds and 5 seconds after you stop typing. Every save also creates a version you can restore later.
Can I export my script?
Yes. Click "PDF" on any script to download a properly formatted screenplay PDF — Courier 12pt, industry margins, title page included.
Voices & Playback
How many voices are there?
42 voices — 12 female and 12 male American, plus British, Australian, Indian, Canadian, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, and Arabic accents.
How does hybrid playback work?
When you hit Play, the system reads each line with the assigned AI voice. If an actor has recorded their own voice for a line, it plays their recording instead. The switch is seamless.
Casting & Collaboration
How do I invite actors?
Go to your script's Cast page, click "Invite" next to a character, enter the actor's email. They receive a styled invitation email with a one-click signup link.
What do cast members see?
Cast members get their own dashboard showing only their lines. They can view the full script for context, record their voice per line, and chat with the writer.
Can I share with other writers?
Yes. On the Share page, add collaborators by email as "editor" (can edit) or "viewer" (read only). Great for co-writing and feedback.
Storyboard
What is the storyboard?
A visual shot planner for your script. Create frames per scene with shot types (wide, close-up, aerial, etc.), transitions (cut, dissolve, smash-cut...), camera movement, audio notes, and dialogue references.
How does AI image generation work?
Click "AI Image" on any storyboard frame, describe the shot, and AI generates a cinematic image instantly. Free, unlimited, no Photoshop needed. You can also use "AI Breakdown" to auto-generate all frames from your script.
Video Auditions
How do video auditions work?
Create an audition with the lines (sides) you want talent to read. Enter their email. They receive a link to record themselves on camera — no account needed, no app to download. After they submit, you review the video, rate 1-5 stars, and tag them.
Can talent re-record?
Yes. Talent can re-record as many times as they want before hitting submit. Once submitted, the link expires and can't be used again — secure and one-time use.
Contracts
How do digital contracts work?
Pick a template (NDA, Work for Hire, Talent Release, etc.) or create your own. Enter the recipient's email. They receive a link to review and sign — no account needed. You track status: pending, signed, or declined.
Can I create my own templates?
Yes. You start with 7 built-in templates and can add, edit, or delete your own custom templates. Use placeholders like [YOUR NAME], [RECIPIENT NAME], and [DATE] — they auto-fill when you use the template.
AI Assistant
What can the AI do?
Brainstorm ideas, generate scenes, improve dialogue, write in a character's voice, create beat sheets, review your full script with professional notes, auto-generate storyboard frames, and create AI images for your storyboard.
Does AI write my script for me?
No — it's a tool, not a replacement. The AI assists and suggests, but you're the writer. You decide what to keep, change, or ignore. Your creative vision drives everything.
Storage & Budget
What is Document Storage?
A personal file manager for all your writing materials — research, images, PDFs, audio, video. Organize with folders, add notes, rename, and download anytime. Up to 25MB per file.
How does the budget tracker work?
Each script has a Budget tab. Add line items across 12 categories (Talent, Crew, Equipment, etc.) as estimated or actual costs. Mark items as paid. See totals, progress bar, and category breakdown.
Security & Privacy
Who owns my scripts?
You do. 100%. We never claim ownership of your work.
Is my work private?
Scripts are private by default. Only you and people you invite can see them.
Is it secure?
Yes. HTTPS, bcrypt passwords, CSRF protection, and optional 2FA.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Delete your account in Settings — removes everything permanently.
