Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information MyWriters.life collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to be straightforward: we collect only what we need to run the service, and we don't sell your data.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: name, email address, and password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never see your actual password). When you register, you also choose an @mywriters.life writer email address.

Your content: scripts, storyboards, recordings, comments, messages, contracts, and other content you create or upload. This is private to your account by default.

Student ID images: if you apply for the Student discount plan, you upload a photo of your student ID. See Section 5 below.

Writer email mailbox contents: messages you send and receive through your @mywriters.life mailbox are stored on our servers so you can access them via the built-in webmail.

Payment information: we do not collect or store your credit card, debit card, or bank account details. All payments go directly through PayPal. We store only the PayPal transaction ID and subscription ID returned by PayPal so we can manage your subscription.

Usage data: basic server logs (IP address, browser, pages visited, timestamps) for security and debugging. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising analytics.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and operate the Service;
  • Process payments and manage your subscription;
  • Send transactional emails (account verification, password reset, subscription receipts, support replies);
  • Send occasional product updates (you can opt out in Settings);
  • Detect and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse;
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your data. We do not share your scripts, recordings, or content with third parties except as necessary to provide the Service (for example, delivering a message to a cast member you invited).

3. Third-Party Services We Share With

The following third parties process data on our behalf as part of running the Service:

  • PayPal — payment processing. Receives your name and email so it can complete checkout. PayPal Privacy Policy.
  • Anthropic (Claude API) — AI script assistant, doctor, and logline generator features. When you use these features, your script text is sent to Anthropic for processing. Anthropic does not train on API input. Anthropic Privacy Policy.
  • Text-to-speech providers — when you use AI voice features, the text you want spoken is sent to the TTS provider to generate audio.

4. Email, Messaging, and Cast Recordings

Your @mywriters.life email is private to you. Admin staff do not read your email except when strictly necessary to investigate abuse reports, respond to a legal request, or at your request for support purposes.

In-app messages between writers and cast members are private to the sender and recipient.

Voice recordings made by cast members for your scripts are stored on our servers and are accessible to you and the cast member who made them, subject to the contracts you arrange through the platform.

5. Student ID Images

If you apply for the Student plan, you upload a photo of your school ID. Here is how we handle it:

  • Images are stored in a private directory that is not publicly accessible over the web;
  • Only authorized admin reviewers can view them;
  • Images are used only to verify your enrollment status — never shared, published, or used for marketing;
  • Images are automatically deleted 90 days after your student status ends or is rejected;
  • You may request earlier deletion by emailing admin@mywriters.life at any time.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information, scripts, recordings, and @mywriters.life mailbox promptly (within 30 days). Certain records may be retained longer if required by law or necessary for fraud prevention, tax compliance, or dispute resolution.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access and portability — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • Correction — request that we correct inaccurate information (most fields you can edit yourself in Settings);
  • Deletion — request that we delete your personal data. You can do this yourself from the Settings page, which removes your account, scripts, recordings, and email mailbox;
  • Objection — object to our processing of your personal data in certain circumstances;
  • Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent for processing where we rely on it;
  • Complaint — lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email admin@mywriters.life or use the contact form. We'll respond within 30 days.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA) have the same rights described above, plus the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the right to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information (we do neither), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

8. Cookies

We use session cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracking.

9. Children

MyWriters.life is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it. If you are between 13 and 18, you must have parental consent to use the Service.

10. Security

We protect your data with industry-standard measures including HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, bcrypt password hashing, CSRF protection, optional two-factor authentication, server-side input validation, and principle-of-least-privilege access controls. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we discover a data breach affecting your account, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

11. International Users

MyWriters.life is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from your jurisdiction.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and/or by posting a notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Contact

For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at our contact page or email admin@mywriters.life.
